Hello and welcome to our webpage for all things pregnancy and postpartum. My name is Colleen Adams and I have been an OB nurse for over 20 years specializing in high-risk antepartum and postpartum care in South Florida. I graduated from the University of South Florida with a bachelor's degreee in biology, followed by graduating summa cum laude from Florida Atlantic University with a bachelor of science degree in nursing. I was selected as nurse of the year for my unit two years in a row at the first hospital I worked at, but have also received numerous patient awards at both of my facilities and those are the ones I hold especially close to my heart because a busy new mother or grieving partner took the time to write those for me. Being a part of bringing new life into the world or caring for someone when they have lost their precious baby is an incredible and humbling experience that I cherish. I have met so many wonderful families over the years and I am grateful for each and every one of them.
I often say that I couldn't even begin to guess how many people are out there who own a baby book with a picture of me holding them in it! When I think of that it reminds me of how important my role is in the lives of the families I care for. As a nurse, I have the opportunity to be a part of some of the most important moments in people's lives, and I take that responsibility very seriously. That is why I am so glad you have come to this site to learn and lessen your anxiety about what to expect when delivering your baby in the hospital; there is so much misinformation out there and I am happy to use my experience to help others all across the country to gain a better understanding of this process. Educating patients and their families about how to prepare for a hospital delivery and how to care for the mother and child in the days and weeks after is one of my favorite parts of my job. I find it so rewarding and now can reach and have a positive impact on many more families. Thank you for trusting me and my network of colleagues to be part of your journey. Please reach out if you have topics you would also like to see discussed and be sure check out the blog for funny or touching stories, and updates.
